SCGMA YPG Event Recap – Hilti Glazing Innovations Presentation

The SCGMA Young Professionals Group hosted their first in-person event of 2024, Hilti’s Glazing Innovations Presentation, on Friday, March 22nd. Young professionals from several of our contractor members attended this lunch and learn at Hilti’s retail store in Orange to gain insights into Hilti’s glazing products and services. The event commenced with a welcoming meet and greet, followed by a comprehensive presentation by Hilti’s team, which provided an overview of Hilti’s glazing solutions in the construction industry, including fastening systems, panel support systems, firestop systems, and glass handrails.

Liv Hanlon, Hilti’s SoCal Regional Manager, kicked off the presentation with an introduction and a background of Hilti’s mission and services. Andrew Torrance, Hilti’s Trade Manager in the Westcoast, then delved into an overview of their fastening systems for installing windows, curtain walls, and handrails in various materials, emphasizing the most sought-after systems such as HAC-V and HAC-TU. He also discussed the advantages and disadvantages of different types of anchors, highlighting mechanical and torque methods for efficient and safe installation.

Andy Coberth, Hilti’s Business Developer in the Westcoast, redirected the presentation to focus on the features of their glazing Embeds, their code compliance, and new cast-in solution designs for window wall facades. He also covered the components of Hilti’s rainscreen products, providing a comprehensive understanding of their offerings. Attendees learned about Hilti’s engineering services, including technical support for office specifications and job-site support advice and training.  Attendees also learned about Hilti’s firestop services as they relate to building code requirements and Hilti’s construction software, Fieldwire.

The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session and a hands-on demonstration, allowing young professionals to test Hilti’s products and tools by installing fasteners and embeds themselves. We would like to extend a special thanks to the Hilti team for organizing this informative event, and contributing to the development and empowerment of young professionals group.
