SCGMA YPG Event Recap – Division 8 Storefront and Hardware Specs Tour

On Friday, December 8th, the SCGMA Young Professionals Group concluded their events of 2023 with a tour of Division 8 Sales and Services Headquarters in Ontario, CA. Jonny Reynoso, Division 8 Sales Consultant, commenced the event with a walkthrough of the facility’s warehouse showcasing $10 million worth of inventory. The tour continued with a display of different types of door hardware, including threshold offsets, hinges, locks, and operators, accompanied by their respective usage and pricing. After outlining the distinctions between operating mechanical and electrical devices, Jonny provided a demonstration on attaching necessary parts, such as a motor, control box, and header for modifying mechanical exit devices into electric devices.

Attendees also learned about the process of ordering materials and pre-installation, as well as common problems encountered by spec writers highlighting the significance of ensuring ADA and fire compliance. To avoid running into compliance issues, Division 8 provided a list of the best products that conform to ADA standards and smoke systems. Later, the group was introduced to new technology emerging in the market, including auto operators utilizing Bluetooth, touchless doors with a keypad for entry and access control hardwired and driven by WiFi, while others are battery-powered.

Division 8 concluded the tour by showing the group the efficiency of utilizing test kits on the field to ensure the firing of motors and connectors as well as recommending a few test kits that would save time and labor. Overall, the tour provided an in-depth understanding of door hardware and the transition towards electrifying exit devices. We would like to express a special thanks to Division 8’s team for their time and effort in making this event successful.
