On March 27th, we hosted our annual Glazing Boot Camp at the Apprenticeship Training Facility in Commerce, bringing together young professionals and USC Architecture students for a dynamic, hands-on learning experience. The event fostered meaningful collaboration between industry professionals and future architects, creating valuable opportunities to exchange knowledge and build connections within the glazing community.
The program began with an overview of the glazier trade, followed by a tour of the apprenticeship facility and a review of proper PPE. With guidance from our instructors, attendees constructed storefront and curtain wall mockups, gaining practical experience with key installation techniques, along with a demonstration and hands-on practice in glass cutting. Participants also explored essential components of glazing systems, including frame setup and thermal breaks, while observing industry best practices. The Boot Camp concluded with a live water testing demonstration, where attendees learned how glazing systems are evaluated for performance and durability, and how to identify potential issues in real-world applications.
Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of this year’s Boot Camp. We extend our appreciation to our USC partners, as well as our Apprenticeship Training Center team and apprentices, for their continued support and commitment to developing the next generation of industry professionals.
