On November 2 President Obama signed the budget bill which carried an under-the-radar provision that will increase OSHA penalties by up to 80%. The provision mandates all OSHA penalties, which have been relatively still since 1990, to adjust to inflation.
This means a serious infraction can jump from $70,000 to $125,000, and other violations from $7,000 to $12,500.
The provision also calls for OSHA penalties to be adjusted to inflation annually.
