Ken Simonson, AGC of America Chief Economist, Hosts SCGMA’s First Virtual Event

Southern California Glass Management Association hosted its first virtual event, the SCGMA Economic Webinar: Pandemic Outlook for Construction, on Tuesday, November 17, 2020. This free webinar gave SCGMA members and guests the opportunity to glimpse into the construction industry’s future.

Ken Simonson, the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) Chief Economist, hosted this informative event. Ken reported on AGC’s latest coronavirus survey, explaining how COVID-19 impacted the industry directly and indirectly. He also examined how these difficulties affected AGC member’s firms, workforce, and projects.

Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistic’s Census Bureau was also used to examine the national and local outlook for construction. This included yearly statistics on private residential and nonresidential spending, a breakdown of September 2020’s construction segment spending, and building impacts to date. This data allowed Ken to determine what short-term and long-term patterns the industry can expect and what this means for contractors.

Below is a recording of SCGMA’s webinar featuring Ken Simonson, as well as the PowerPoint used during the presentation. The current issue of the Data DIGest, Ken’s weekly one-page summary of economic news relevant to construction, is also available.
