AGMT Participants, AGMT Program Stakeholders, and Interested Parties –
At the 2021 Annual Meeting of the Architectural Glass and Metal Certification Council (AGMCC) on October 28th in Kansas City, the AGMT Committee approved a change in the work experience prerequisite to sit for testing from 7500 hours to 7000 hours. Certification is still granted at 7500 hours. This was later ratified by the AGMCC Board of Directors.
Beginning in 2022 a Glazier applying for certification may submit a minimum of 7000 hours to be able to sit for both the KBT and PBT. If the Glazier passes all parts of the test and meets the other requirements (signed agreement, photo, and OSHA 10 or equivalent) they will have 12 months from their PBT date to resubmit proof of experience demonstrating more than 7500 hours to achieve certification.
The AGMT Committee identified the logistical challenge that certain areas of the country are realistically only going to be visited once a year by the AGMT Testing Staff. The Committee wanted to make this change to help Glaziers to test sooner rather than waiting a year or more if they were only a few months short of the 7500-hour requirement. The Committee decided on reducing the requirement to sit for testing to 7000 hours as it is still sufficient to represent an “experienced” Glazier who possess the body of knowledge to successfully navigate the rigors of the AGMT Tests. While at the same time ensuring a high likelihood that the Glazier would be able surpass the certification requirement of 7500 hours in a timely manner to earn AGMT certification.
